Sixteenth edition of the Camargue and Delta du Rhône Festival, from May 08 to May 12, 2024

Celebrating biodiversity and culture

The Camargue and Delta du Rhône Festival was created in 2004 on the initiative of the town of Port Saint Louis du Rhône, keen to preserve this unique ecosystem. The association, now headed by Anne Durget, organizes this annual event, which over the years has become an essential meeting place for the local community.

Every year, the festival reaches out to the entire region, helping to protect this unique territory by raising public awareness of the importance of preserving the Camargue region and its ecosystem, and promoting responsible tourism. It highlights themes such as the environment, biodiversity, nature, traditional trades and scientific advances, while involving local players.

The Festival is structured around a number of different themes, and offers a multitude of activities such as nature outings, photographic exhibitions, workshops, debates… and much more besides.

This year, get ready once again to travel, dream, admire, learn and discover…

The Camargue and Delta du Rhône Festival: a unmissable event in the region

The Festival de la Camargue et du Delta du Rhône is a highly anticipated event for the inhabitants of the Camargue region. In 2023, over 15,000 people attended, and just as many are expected for this sixteenth edition.

For this 2024 edition, the Festival explores the links between the environmental challenges of the Camargue and those of Bangladesh. Three patrons have been selected: personalities renowned for their research on the environment and climate transition:

  • Francis Hallé, the scientific patron and world-renowned botanist. This enthusiast will unveil his project to revive a primary forest and thus meet the major challenges of the ecological crisis;
  • Alexandre Caizergues, the sports patron, four-time kite-surfing world champion and co-founder of Syroco. He will accompany the Olympic flame as it passes through Port Saint Louis on the last day of the Festival;
  • Erik Orsenna, the writer patron. His expertise will take visitors to Bangladesh, this year’s featured country, with the participation of the NGO Friendship France.

A number of guests of honor are also expected, including renowned photographers who have agreed to join the Festival in order to bear witness, alert and raise public awareness of the environmental issues affecting our planet: Olivier Larrey and his project on wolves, Jean-Baptiste Sénègas and his portraits of Cabanonniers, and Tony Crocetta and his view of Africa.

Exhibitions, conferences, debates, encounters, events, film screenings, forums and concerts are just some of the activities on the program for this cultural and festive event criss-crossing the Camargue from Port Saint Louis du Rhône to Aigues Mortes, via Arles and Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
